TMT Power of Truth t-shirt

When working on the drop for The Moscow Times (TMT), we wanted to highlight what makes the publication truly distinctive. At the same time, we sought to rethink the use of its visual identity, carefully avoiding the toxicity that Russian symbolism can carry.

Task:
To use the publication’s logo and brand elements while softening the implications associated with the reference to Moscow in its name.

Solution:
We revisited The Moscow Times’ original and iconic logo — a mark that, in today’s context, has become politically charged due to its association with Moscow.

We transformed the St George’s pike into a symbol of writing and journalism — a quill — shifting its meaning from one of aggression to one of expression and truth.

We also introduced orange, the national colour of the Netherlands, to emphasise that The Moscow Times now operates in exile and under the protection of the Netherlands.

By incorporating elements associated with the Netherlands alongside symbols of independent journalism, we create a visual language that subtly reinforces trust and credibility in the publication.
